FAQs

How long is a physical therapy session?

All of our sessions are around one hour long. We found that having a full hour of individualized attention seems to yield the better results.

What should I wear?

You should wear loose fitting clothing the exposes the site of pain/discomfort. All sessions are conducted barefoot.

What should I expect?

For your initial evaluation you should expect to move, as we will be performing a variety of orthopedic tests stressing structures and ligaments. We will also be doing a 3D movement screen to see where your body can and can’t move. We may also do some muscle testing. All of this is done to formulate a plan of care.

Do you use physical therapy aides or assistants?

All of our sessions are with a licensed Physiotherapist.

Do I need a prescription from a doctor to see a physical therapist?

In New York State physical therapists have direct access, meaning that a prescription is not needed to start care, you will need one in the first 30 days or 10 treatment sessions. We will communicate with you and your doctor to make sure you get all the treatment sessions you need for your condition.

How many session does it usually take to get better?

This is a hard question and depends on many factors. Some people get better within a session and never come back. For others it takes a couple of months. We usually like to see an 80% improvement in a patient’s main complaint in 4-6 sessions. So far, for a majority of our patients this has been the case.

I want an MRI. Can you prescribe one?

Physical therapists cannot prescribe X-rays or MRIs. If we think you need one we’ll let you know and do our best to make sure you get one.

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you give less than 24 hour notice to cancel an appointment we will have to charge your credit card for the full session. Insurance companies will not pay for this and it is your responsibility. If you’re unsure that you can make an appointment you can cancel and try to schedule the same day if it’s still available. Because we work one-on-one for a full hour we do not double book. Late cancellations hurt three people: you the patient because you’re not getting the care your doctor or physical therapist deemed necessary, the physiotherapist because they have an empty slot, and another patient who could have booked the appointment. Please respect the time of your physiotherapist and others 🙂

What does Out-of-Network mean? Will it cost me more?

Insurance companies would have you believe that seeing an out-of-network provider will cost you an arm and a leg. That’s not always true, we offer payment plans that fit all budgets. As physiotherapists our main concern is you, our patient, and getting you better. We handle most insurance claims, sometimes it’s better for a patient to self-bill their insurance company. Our medical biller, Kimberly, will call you and explain everything you need to know.

Do you give session summaries and/or home exercises?

Yes! We give extremely detailed session summaries with links to a Google Drive for videos of exercises that patients do during their session. All of this is shared via Google Drive (HIPAA Compliant). We usually try to get these done by the end of the day but it may take 48 hours to complete. If you have not received your summary please email us and let us know.
