Injury Free Running by Book Review

Injury Free Running by Tom Michaud

As many of you might guess we are obsessed with the human body, anatomy, kinesiology, neurology, psychology, etc. There are a lot of moving parts in the human body and at movement minded we want to make sure they are all fined tuned! This is the second book I have read from Michaud, the first was Human Locomotion which was excellent!

Injury-free running is an incredible read for anyone interested in the latest research on running, especially if you have aches and pains while you run. Michaud breaks complex topics into bite sized pieces with actionable steps that you can take to get your self injury free. He starts with very basic topics, has deep dives into the specifics and, if youre so inclined, cites the articles so you can read the source.

Michaud describes the functional anatomy of running well, he also goes into how injuries keep people from running optimally. For example when he talks about Achilles tendinitis he spends time discussing which type of calf stretch is best ( neutral position) and that aggressive stretching can damage the insertion site of the Achilles so stretching should be performed in the mid-range. He also discusses repetitions and sets for all of the stretches and exercises.

Not only does Michaud go through a variety of common running injuries and how to self manage them. He also talks about proper running form, sneakers, orthotics, running milage and so much more!

This book is a must read for every medical professional that works with runners and runners that want to start increasing their milage to run.
